Pros at IC to help youths at FCA Camps

Pro basketball player Anthony Parker plays ball with kids at IC Tuesday.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard and Bradley alum Anthony Parker is one of a handful of professional athletes on hand at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp on the campus of Illinois College.
Parker says he learns just as much mentoring young Christian athletes as they learn from him. He says it feels good to show young athletes that professional athletes are more than what they see on TV. He says, "pro athletes are more than what they see on SportsCenter."
Camp assistant Todd Sweatman says professionals from the NFL, NBA and the college ranks donated their time to the camp. The list includes University of Illinois national championship wrestler Jacob Harry, retired all-star catcher Darren Fletcher from the Washington Nationals, ex-JHS and U of I baseball coach Itchy Jones and several former NFL players.
As for his current job as a player for the now LeBron James-less Cleveland Cavaliers, Parker says he understands the King’s move and is looking forward to the season ahead.
He says he sees the scathing letter written by owner Dan Gilbert to Cleveland fans as an emotion-based motivational tool meant to "rally the troops."
The FCA camp encompasses many sports from football and basketball to track and field. The camp started Monday and runs through Thursday.
