ID of local man found dead released
Jacksonville Police came across the badly decomposed body of 50-year-old Matthew Creasey of the 700 block of East Douglas when investigating a call reporting a bad odor emitting from Creasey’s home at about 11:30 last night. The search was prompted by a neighbor who had called police after smelling the odor for nearly a week.
Morgan County Coroner Jeff Lair says he believes Creasey died from natural causes nearly two weeks ago. Foul play isn’t suspected in Creasey’s death, though Lair says accidental death isn’t being ruled out in the investigation. He says Creasey lived by himself and had medication that indicates he suffered from a seizure disorder.
Toxicology reports are expected to reveal Creasey’s official cause of death.
An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
The family hasn’t yet selected a funeral home to handle Creasey’s services.
