  • Electric Aggregation to be on Ballot

       

      Voters in unincorporated areas of Morgan County will see the question of electric aggregation on the ballot.

         Commissioners approved a resolution allowing the question on the ballot this morning.

         Regional Planning Commission administrator and MCS Community Services director Dusty Douglas says the plan is to lower electric rates for residents by shopping for different providers and locking into the lowest rate. A consultant would pool several communities’ bids together to find the lowest rate.

         Douglas says only Ameren customers would be affected if the referendum passes but customers of electric co-ops will still be able to vote on the measure.

    “The co-ops are in a bit of a different situation in the way they buy power now,” says Douglas. “For Morgan County, it’s strictly Ameren customers but one of the anomalies of the statute is that anybody gets to vote on it. It’s not something we can change, nor something we want to change.”

         The mayors of Franklin, Murrayville, and Woodson have also heard a presentation about electric aggregation. It’s likely residents in those cities and villages will vote on the topic in April pending approval from   those community’s boards.
